Annie on my Mind is a revolutionary lesbian young adult novel. Written by author Nancy Garden and published in 1982, the story addresses the lives of two teenage girls in New York City navigating the difficulties—and joy—of young love and self discovery. My intention when designing a cover for this book was to reimagine it in a modern setting and give the viewer hints into aspects of the story. Annie on my Mind is a famously banned book, but it did make history for its time being the first book featuring lesbian characters with a happy ending. With my design, I want to speak to individuals who find joy in simple, kind romantic stories.
